Penn (3-6-1, 0-4 MCC), who held an 18-14 edge in shots, fell behind in the early going as the V-Hawks (5-6, 2-1 MCC) scored in the eighth minute.
Viterbo tacked on another goal in the 24th minute when a centering pass was unfortunately not properly cleared out of the box and went into the Statesmen netting for an own goal.
Just a few minutes later,
Nick Gorrie (Fr., Kilmarnock, Scotland, Grange Academy) gave his team some hope, though, as he was fouled in the box by the V-Hawk keeper, resulting in a penalty kick.
Tim Eyer (Sr., Palos Heights, Ill., Shepard HS) stepped in to take the shot and blew the ball past at the 29:07 mark, making it just 2-1 at the break. It is the senior's first goal of the year.
Gorrie and Eyer tallied a team-best three shots apiece.
The visitors picked up their third score of the day in the 72nd minute before
Tom Hogan (Jr., East Moline, Ill., Iowa Central CC) split the deficit in half at the 81:40 juncture. The goal is his first in the navy and gold.
The goal would end the night's scoring, however, as Viterbo played just good enough defense down the stretch to keep Penn from knocking home the equalizer.
Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) recorded seven saves Saturday night.
