Oskaloosa--Taylor Louie (Sr., West Covina, Calif., West Covina HS) and Joe Range (Fr., Burlington, Burlington HS) each recorded falls to lead the Statesmen grapplers to a 24-13 win over Luther in dual-meet action Tuesday.

Penn (1-0), who is receiving votes in the NAIA's preseason poll, avenged last year's 29-19 loss to the #14 nationally-ranked Norse of NCAA Division III.

Louie opened the home opener with a dominating performance at 125 pounds. Leading 10-1 in the second period, he turned Zach Elliott to his back and pinned him at the 3:57 mark.

Tyler Schneider (Fr., Belleville, Mich., Belleville HS) extended the advantage at 133 pounds, winning 7-5 in overtime. The freshman rallied with a third-period escape and then took Louis Mazetta to the mat in the extra period to claim the victory.

Penn lost at 141 pounds, but 149-pounder Jason Mozley (Fr., Arlington, Texas, Martin HS) got the margin back to nine with a 6-4 victory over Brent Blaser.

Eric Burgey (Fr., Easton, Pa., Easton HS) was the first of four wrestlers to move up a weight for strategic purposes and was successful in his transition to 157 pounds. The redshirt freshman battled through an injury and held off Calvin Canales 11-9.

Joe Range (Fr., Burlington, Burlington HS) owned a small advantage over Eric Moreno late in his 165-pound match, but outmuscled him in the waning seconds, earning the pin at 6:46.

The Statesmen came up short at 174 and 184 pounds before Matt Woollums (Sr., Chariton, Chariton HS) secured the team victory with a 5-3 win over Nick Pearch at 197 pounds. The heavyweight match went to Luther.

Next: Penn travels to Minneapolis, Minn. Saturday to compete in the Augsburg Invitational. Action begins at 9 a.m.
