Taylor Parks is tied for the team lead with two goals
Oskaloosa--Saturday night brought rain and an aggressive opponent that refused to be stopped as the William Penn women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Mount Mercy in its Midwest Collegiate Conference opener.
The Lady Statesmen (1-5-1, 0-1 MCC) played even through the first 45 minutes with their lone goal coming via Taylor Parks (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), an equalizer at the 15:44 mark. It is her second of 2011.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs dominated the offensive end with another 14 shots in the second stanza (28-7 edge overall) and scored the game winner at 51:00.
Seven different William Penn players had one shot each in the setback, while Ali Parks (So., Omaha, Neb., Central HS) recorded eight saves in her first start of the fall.
Next: The Lady Statesmen remain at home next Saturday to host Grand View in MCC action at 5 p.m.
