Oskaloosa--Taking their collective games to a new level this year, the William Penn bowling teams are both ranked in the NCBCA's first coaches polls of the year.
The men are ranked third, while the women are also in the top 20 at #14. The polls are the first of three set to be released this year
The Statesmen earned 710 points and two first-place votes, while Robert Morris (Ill.) is nearly a unanimous #1 with 934 points and 21 first-place votes.
Lindenwood (Mo.) is second with 730 points (one first-place vote), while Morehead State (Ky.) is fourth and Wichita State (Kan.) is fifth.
William Penn is the only program from the Midwest Collegiate Conference in the poll or receiving votes.
On the women's side, the Lady Statesmen garnered 182 points, while Pikeville (Ky.) holds a narrow lead over Lindenwood (Mo.) for first.
Pikeville has 784 points (ten first-place votes), while Lindenwood (MO.) has 758 points (eight first-place votes). Wichita State (Kan.), with four first-place votes, Robert Morris (Ill.), with the final vote, and Webber International (Fla.) round out the top five.
Fellow MCC programs Viterbo (#16) and St. Ambrose (receiving votes) are also in the rating.
The teams will seek to continue their upward trend next weekend when they play in the Blue and Gold Classic, a Tier 1 event held in South Bend, Ind.
