Lamoni--Despite holding more possession and producing more scoring opportunities than its opponent, the Statesmen men's soccer team could not complete its come-from-behind victory in a 2-1 setback to Graceland in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Tuesday.

William Penn (3-4-1, 0-2 Heart) played fairly even in the first 45 minutes (8-7 edge in shots for GU), but unfortunately the score did not reflect that as the Yellowjackets (5-3, 2-0 Heart) scored in the 14th and 34th minutes for a 2-0 halftime edge.

The Statesmen dominated the second half with a 12-3 shots advantage and their extra pressure finally paid off at the 79:19 mark when Facundo Benitez (Sr., Buenos Aires, Argentina, Business Management) scored unassisted.

The equalizer never came, though, forcing the navy and gold to wait another day for their first league win.

In the end, WPU outshot GU 19-11 with Joni Cruz (Sr., Salinas, Calif., Psychology) leading the way with five shots (four on goal).  Nenad Markovic (So., Belgrade, Serbia) and Anfernee Houston (Harrisburg, Ill., Kinesiology) added three shots as well, while Emannuel Esparza (So., Posen, Ill., Physical Education (K-12)) stopped a trio of Graceland attempts.

"Tonight's score does not reflect our performance," Head Coach Jaymee Highcock said.  "We had much more possession and created numerous chances that we failed to score from.  We will now prepare for Saturday."

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Saturday to host Avila in Heart action at 7:30 p.m.
