Wauwatosa, Wis.--David Decker (Fr., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) made quite a Statesmen debut as he paced the William Penn men's bowling team at the season-opening Midwest Championships Saturday and Sunday.

WPU placed 14th out of 42 teams at the Tier 1 event with 9,276 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games.  Webber International (Fla.) led all teams with 10,182 pins.  Zach Karr of Midland (Neb.) topped the 282-person field in regular play with a 240.2 average (1,441 pins).

Decker had William Penn's best qualifying performance, finishing 13th with a 223.2 average (1,339 pins).  Stian Hoff (Sr., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting) was in the top 50 as well (48th) with a 206.3 average.

Nick Walker (So., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) was next at 195.8, while Bret Keimig (Jr., Davenport, Iowa, Physical Education), at 189.7, and Curtis Majka (Jr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering), at 186.5, also started all six games for the navy and gold.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Indianapolis, Ind. next Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Storm Western Shootout.
