Oskaloosa--Statesmen men's soccer players Emannuel Esparza (So., Posen, Ill., Physical Education) and Santiago Goytia Zamora (Sr., Salta, Argentina, Industrial Technology) were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes Friday.

Goytia Zamora had a 3.63 Grade Point Average entering this fall, while Esparza owned a 3.53 GPA.  They were among a list of 423 men's soccer players from within the NAIA to be awarded the laurel.  Both claim the academic award for the first time.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
