Brian Spielbauer is in his seventh season as head women's basketball coach this winter.
He began his coaching career at Penn, serving as an assistant men's basketball coach for one year.
Spielbauer played three years for the men's basketball program and graduated from Penn in 1996 with a physical education major and minors in health and biology. After graduation, he taught and coached at the high school level for two years at DeWitt and Corydon. At Corydon, Spielbauer was head boy's basketball coach and assistant coach for football and baseball.
He then attended graduate school atBemidji State in Bemidji , Minn.
Spielbauer also teaches part-time in the health and life sciences department. Originally from Guttenberg, Spielbauer currently resides in Oskaloosa with his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters, Sydney and Allie.

Julian Assibey enters his first year as assistant women's basketball and track and field coach this fall.
Assibey, a 2005 graduate of the University with degrees in sports administration and strength and conditioning, returns to Penn after spending the past year and a half as an assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Division II Metro State (Colo.
Assibey has worked double duty recently as, in addition to his time atMetro State
Following graduation in 2005, he received a coaching position for the Southern California Basketball Academy. Assibey then utilized his personal and playing skills by spending a year with the Harlem Ambassadors, performing as a show basketball player.
Assibey was a strong multi-sport collegiate athlete at Penn, serving three years as a captain for the basketball team. On the hardwood, he broke the school's career steals record and placed in the top ten in three-pointers made in a career.
He was a major cog in helping the program return to prominence. His freshman team in 2001-2002 finished 2-30, but by the time he graduated in 2005, the Statesmen had played for back-to-back conference tournament championships and had won 20 games in 2005.
Assibey was the leader of the jumping crew in track as he won three conference titles in the long jump in 2002, 2003, and 2005, claimed a league title in the triple jump in 2003, and qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the triple jump in 2003.
