William Penn Athletics Volunteers Nearly 2,500 Hours of Service

Oskaloosa--Statesmen athletic teams were active servant leaders as they volunteered thousands of hours throughout the 2025-2026 year.

William Penn volunteered a total of 2,497 hours of service during the past school year.

As a Five-Star institution in the NAIA's Champions of Character program with one of the core values being servant leadership, William Penn is dedicated to be an active member in the community.

Volunteering efforts included a variety of activities, including helping at or with: OES High Five Friday, William Penn Community Easter Egg Hunt, Crisis Intervention Services, Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter, Mahaska Chamber Lighted Christmas Parade, Russell Wildlife Cleanup, Fremont Elementary Fun Night, George Daily Auditorium, Sole Hope, Love Inc., Mahaska Drug Trunk or Treat, Assisting local citizens with moving, Eveland Campground Trunk or Treat, Math Night at OMS, Mahaska County Conservation Cleanup, and Heart Day in Action with Special Olympics of Iowa.

The men's volleyball team led the charge with 271 hours, while baseball performed 217 hours and softball finished with 148.  All of WPU's teams engaged in some form of service throughout the year.

"Our student-athletes care deeply about their community, and we enjoy the moments we have to give back," William Penn Assistant Athletic Department for Internal Operations CJ Rettig said.  "I am very proud of them and their coaches for fostering a culture of community."

"Our athletes work hard to dedicate themselves to becoming Champions of Character by representing our university in a high manner," Rettig added.  "We will always be grateful to be a part of the Oskaloosa community and look forward to continuing our service in the future."
