As A Statesmen:

Named NCAA Division III First-Team All-American in 1994 and Third Team in 1993. First-team all-Iowa Conference in 1993 and 1994. Conference MVP in 1994. Holds four school records in pitching. He was 15-0 in 1994, setting a mark for most wins in a season and he was 10-0 the prior season (1993), giving him a perfect 25-0 career record, also a school record. In 1993, Gomez had an ERA of 1.15 with 74 strikeouts. His 129 strikeouts and eight career shutouts are also school records. Penn was 27-4 in 1993 and was 30-9 in 1994 with him on the team.

After Graduation:

Drafted 26th overall in the 1994 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. Played in the Giants farm system for six years. He then played professional ball in independent leagues and later became a professional coach. He served in professional baseball for 12 years, in one form or another, as a player, coach, associate scout with the Chicago White Sox, and also as a scout for Global Scouting Bureau, an international company that tries to find overseas positions for American players looking to continue their professional careers. Has also worked as a consultant for the Florida Winter Baseball League.

He has also volunteered numerous hours coaching youth baseball camps and opened his own practice facility in Cape Coal, Fla., named 90 Plus Sports.
