As A Statesmen:

Member of the first William Penn football teams in 1891 and 1892. Captained the team in 1892. Transferred to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania where he was a two-time All-American. The Outland Trophy awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate lineman was named in his honor.
