As A Statesmen:

Four-year starter and letterman at left tackle. His freshman season, Penn compiled a 7-2 record, snapping a 31-year losing season drought. Also lettered four times in track. He was a unanimous selection in 1962 to the All-Iowa Conference team and NAIA regional team.

After Graduation:

During his 39-year teaching career Almond was named New Mexico Coach of the Year. Active in track officiating, he is a certified USATF national level track and field throws official and has officiated at eight Drake Relays, boy's & girl's state meets and NCAA national meets.
