As A Statesmen:

Distinguished distance runner in track and cross country. Broke the conference record in the mile and two-mile run as a freshman. Then broke both records each year in which he competed. Finished sixth in the NCAA in the mile run in 1927.

After Graduation:

Invited to the Olympic trials.
