As A Statesmen:

Named Iowa Conference MVP in both 1977 and 1978 after leading the league in doubles, runs scored, and stolen bases. Twice all-conference and all-district, he led the Statesmen to their first-ever Iowa Conference title in 1978 while batting .400 and playing shortstop. Signed a professional contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1978.
