WPU Finishes Fall with Eighth-Place Effort at Heart Preview

Overland Park, Kan.--The William Penn men's golf team suffered a disappointing end to its fall campaign as it faced off against its league foes at the Heart Preview Monday and Tuesday.

The Statesmen finished eighth out of 10 teams with a two-round score of 645 (329-316) at the par-72 Nicklaus Golf Club at Lionsgate.  Nicklaus Golf Club will be the host of next spring's Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship which will be held on April 14-15.

MidAmerica Nazarene took the team title at 585 (297-288), while Baker's Gavin Dines led the 57-player field at three-under 141 (71-70).

Luke Galeazzi (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) headed the navy and gold in a tie for 20th at 157 (78-79), while Nicholas Moore (So., Hurst, Texas, Business Management) was close behind in a tie for 29th at 160 (81-79).

Francois Assaud (Sr., Montelimar, France, Sports Management) finished 35th at 163 (84-79), and Andon Herrera (So., Katy, Texas, Business Management) tied for 39th at 165 (86-79).

Tyler Pedretti (Fr., Upland, Calif., Business Management) rounded out the lineup at 177 (95-82) to place 52nd, while Alvaro Rodriguez (Fr., Gijon, Spain, Business Management) competed as an individual for WPU and tied for 36th at 164 with a pair of 82s.

"We have high expectations and really wanted to test ourselves against the rest of the conference, but unfortunately this was a disappointing week for us," Head Coach Elise Ibrahim said.  "The course was a really strong test of our patience and skill.  We have a plan, though, of how we want to attack the rest of the year to give ourselves the best chance of success in the spring."
