Five Receive All-Heart Recognition

Oskaloosa--Five members of the Statesmen men's soccer team garnered postseason recognition Tuesday as the 2025 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams were announced.

Matias Meijide (Grad., Brunete, Spain, Master's of Organizational Leadership) headlined the quintet as he was named to the 14-person first team.

The duo of Albert Feixas (So., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science) and Angel Valdez (So., Mexicali, Mexico, Nursing) were two of the 14 second-team selections, while John-Joe Mullane (Sr., Kent, England, Sports Management) and Rob Stoop (So., Bosch en Duin, Netherlands, Exercise Science) were each given third-team nods (14 total third-teamers).

For Feixas, it is his second honor as he was a third-team pick in 2024.  The other four honorees are all first-time recipients.

The award winners have helped William Penn to a 10-4-4 record (7-3-3 Heart) and a spot in the Heart Championship Semifinals against top-seeded Baker after defeating Park 3-0 in Tuesday's quarterfinal matchup.

Meijide, who plays as a midfielder, currently has four goals and two assists.  Three of his scores have been game-winners, while he is also 2-for-2 in penalty kicks.

A forward on the pitch, Feixas was awarded his second career honor after having a team-best seven goals along with one assist for a team-high 15 points entering Friday's semifinals.  The sophomore forward has connected on his lone penalty kick.

In addition to being a staple in the defense, Valdez has also accounted for one goal (a game-winning strike) and four assists.

Mullane has not only scored three goals, but more impressively guided the navy and gold in assists with seven.  The forward managed two goals in Tuesday's quarterfinal win over Park.

Stoop has headed the Statesmen defense to allow just 1.11 goals per game.  The sophomore has also been a part of the offensive charge with two scores and four assists.  WPU has recorded five shutouts this fall.

Chafik El Idrissi of Baker was named Heart Player of the Year, while Antonio Mugica of MidAmerica Nazarene collected the Offensive POY accolade.  The Defensive POY and Newcomer of the Year laurels were both given to Kevin Ventura of Grand View, while MidAmerica Nazarene's Jeremie Pelade earned the Freshman of the Year nod.

Baker's Nick Aguilar was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year by his peers.
