Statesmen Compete at CMU Invite
Fayette, Mo.--The William Penn track and field teams continued their outdoor campaigns at the Central Methodist Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Max Finley (Fr., Richville, N.Y., Secondary Education) and Tahj Ferguson (Sr., Hartford, Conn., Psychology) both recorded second-place finishes to pace the navy and gold.
Finley was runner-up in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:52.80, while Ferguson collected the silver in the long jump at 22-7.25. Ferguson also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.05 seconds.
Landon Hansen (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Political Science) headlined WPU's throwers by taking third in the shot put at 48-7.5.
Justin Moeller (Sr., Keota, Iowa, Psychology) was a high finisher in three separate events, finishing fourth in both the 110-meter hurdles (15.40) and pole vault (12-9.5) and seventh in the high jump (5-7).
Jasper Stottlemyer (Sr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sociology) was also in the top 10 on three occasions, highlighted by a fifth-place effort in the hammer throw at 159-6. He was ninth in the discus (134-4) and 10th in the shot put (44-11.5) as well.
Tom Nyandoro (So., Wake Forest, N.C., Information Technology) recorded a pair of top-10 showings, ending up fifth in the triple jump at 42-0.5 and sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.81 seconds.
Jonah Heckenberg (Jr., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management), in sixth (2:00.39), and Brandon Williams (Fr., Fountain, Colo., Civil Engineering), in ninth (2:02.74), were both high finishers in the 800-meter run.
Jace Lukefahr (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Mechanical Engineering) and Jeremiah Conteh (Jr., Shorewood, Wis., English) each tallied top-half placings in three different events. Lukefahr was 11th in the discus (128-4), 12th in the hammer (140-7), and 13th in the shot put (43-10.5), while Conteh finished 14th in shot (42-11.75), 16th in the hammer (131-2), and 19th in the discus (114-4).
Johnny Fisher (Fr., Laporte, Colo., New Media) took 15th in the 400-meter dash in 53.06 seconds, while Rayan Antonia (Fr., Willemstad, Curacao, Entrepeneurship and Small Business Management) was 16th in the 100 in 11.32 seconds. Ethan Varvelo (So., Channelview, Texas, Engineering) matched Antonia as he was also 16th in the 800 in 2:05.41.
The 4x100-meter relay team guided the women as the crew placed second in 50.29 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay squad also did well, taking sixth at 4:27.31.
Raven Williams (Grad., Las Vegas, Nev., Master's of Organizational Leadership) and Phoebe Burt (So., Coralville, Iowa) were the highest individual placers in eighth place. Wiliams hit the 400 finish line in 1:04.11, while Burt tossed the discus a length of 122-11. Williams was also 11th in the 200 (26.67).
Alexandra Rose (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science) was ninth in the 100 in 12.75 seconds; she was also 27th in the 200 in 27.79 seconds.
Tenth place was claimed by both Elizabeth Hele (Sr., Victorville, Calif., Biology) in the 1,500-meter run (5:30.07) and Erica Martin (Jr., Detroit, Mich., Sports Management) in the shot put (36-5).
Tabitha Rogers (So., Venice, Calif., Elementary Education) led the remaining competitors with two top-20 performances. She was 14th in the 100 (12.99) and 18th in the 200 (27.40). Aiyanna Campbell (22nd, 27.64), Alise Simon (Fr., St. Charles, Mo.) (26th, 27.78), and DeAvae Adderley (So., Nassau, Bahamas) (28th, 27.83) were in the top half of the 200 field as well.
Next Up: William Penn will travel to Pella next Friday to compete in the Central Dutch Invitational.
