Big Second Half Not Enough Against GVU

Des Moines--The Statesmen women's basketball team scored 43 points in the second half of Wednesday's game against Grand View, but it was too little and too late as it fell 68-49 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

WPU (2-19, 2-8 Heart) fell behind 36-6 at halftime, but played a spirited final 20 minutes, outscoring the Vikings 43-32. At the final buzzer, the visitors were outshot 45.6%-38.5%.

Amanee Clark (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Human Services) topped the navy and gold with 12 points off the bench, while Zantasia White (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Secondary Education) also hit double digits with 10 points. White secured a team-best eight rebounds as well; the Statesmen were outrebounded 33-28.

Morgan Terry (Jr., Cornersville, Tenn., Biology) and Journie Augmon (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Human Services) both managed eight points in the setback, while Alexis True (Jr., Frankfort, Ky., Exercise Science) tallied three assists.

William Penn committed 19 turnovers, compared to 12 for GVU (18-4, 9-1), which led to a 24-12 deficit in points off errors.

Of note, the teams combined for only 19 fouls, which resulted in just 11 total free throws (GVU was 5-for-6, WPU was 3-for-5).
