Gorman’s Bronze Highlights Sixth-Place Effort at Five Seasons Classic

Cedar Rapids--The Statesmen women's bowling team narrowly missed a top-five performance as it got 2025-2026 underway at the Five Seasons Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn took sixth out of 17 programs with a final tally of 7,803 pins in five regular games and 20 Baker games.  Host Mount Mercy walked off with the team title with 8,773 pins, while Morningside garnered runner-up honors at 8,035.

Tori Franklin of Mount Mercy paced the individual standings with a 215.6 average (1,078 pins).

Not far behind Franklin was Ashley Gorman (So., Stillwater, Minn., Exercise Science), who was named to the all-tournament team.  The sophomore took third overall with a 207.4 average (1,037 pins), including a high game of 278.

Danielle Fincham (Jr., Surprise, Ariz., Exercise Science) also bowled in five games, posting a 178.0 average.

Kelcey Aczon-Kawamura (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing) averaged 167.8 pins in four games, while the trio of Macyn Huston (So., Durant, Iowa, Elementary Education) (169.3 average), Lucy Mitchell (Jr., Poulsbo, Wash., Psychology and Human Services) (168.0 average), and Alyssa Tanner (Fr., Traverse City, Mich., Sports Management) (151.7 average) all started three rounds.

Hannalee Songer (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) wrapped up the varsity lineup with a 166.5 mark in two games.

A reserve crew was also on the lanes for WPU.  The team, led by Jayden Montgomery (Fr., Sigourney, Iowa, Secondary Education) and her 178.4 average, ended up sixth with 6,992 pins.

"With it being the first tournament and us having so many new faces, I was happy with our performance overall," Head Coach Kirstin Foster said.  "We found some things we need to work on, but our communication and chemistry were great."

Next Up: William Penn travels to Rockford, Ill. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
