Burt’s Top-10 Effort Tops Statesmen at Outdoor Nationals

Asheville, N.C.--Three Statesmen women's track and field athletes fought well as they competed at the 45th Annual NAIA Outdoor National Championship Wednesday through Friday.

Phoebe Burt (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) paced William Penn by finishing 10th in the discus with a distance of 139-8.  She was unfortunately just two inches shy of qualifying for finals.

Adedoyin Aderibigbe (Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas, Sociology) was next, placing 18th in the 100-meter dash in 12.01 seconds.

Crystal Shaw (Fr., Austin, Texas, Applied Computer Science) also battled in the triple jump, taking 20th at 35-6.75.

British Columbia won the team title with 101 points.

"Our women went out and battled; all of them wrapped up, or taped up, or sleeved up," Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said.  "They left everything out there and gave a show.  Some narrowly missed finals in heartbreaking fashion, but that is how it goes at nationals.  We could not be more proud of them."
