William Penn Wins First League Dual

Marshall, Mo.--Kylee Eastwood (Fr., Fontana, Kan., Undecided) had her hand raised twice as the Statesmen women's wrestling team won its first Heart of America Athletic Conference dual meet of the season Wednesday.

WPU (8-13, 1-4 Heart) defeated Waldorf 36-12 to open the league triangular, but then fell to host Missouri Valley 42-5.

The navy and gold were benefactors of six open weights by the Warriors as they cruised to their first Heart win of the campaign.  There were just three contested matches with WPU claiming victory once.

Eastwood picked up that victory, pinning Brynn Adasiewicz in 1:10 at 170 pounds.

Forfeits were collected by 109-pounder Rachel Cotter (Fr., Katy, Texas), 116-pounder Brittany Cotter (So., Katy, Texas, Nursing), 123-pounder Mami Selemani (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa, Business Management), 130-pounder Alexis Cervantes (Fr., San Diego, Calif., Biology), 136-pounder Ashleigh Denny (So., El Paso, Texas, Undecided), and 191-pounder Samantha Ruano (Jr., Romeoville, Ill., Business Management).

The Statesmen unfortunately failed to record the conference sweep as the host Vikings were too much to overcome.  Eastwood was the only grappler to get William Penn on the scoreboard, tallying a fall over Danielle Saldivar in 1:50.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Fayette, Mo. Thursday to face Central Methodist in a Heart dual meet at 7:30 p.m.
