William Penn Competes in Final Tourney of Regular Season
Des Moines--The Statesmen women's wrestling team sent a number of athletes onto the mat for one final regular season tournament as it competed in the Grand View Open Saturday.
101-pounder Teya Garner (Fr., San Antonio, Texas, Biology) headlined the navy and gold results as she finished fourth. After dropping her first bout, the freshman won her next three matches--all by fall--to reach the consolation finals.
116-pounder Catherine Steinkamp (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science), 123-pounder Brittany Cotter (Jr., Katy, Texas, Nursing), and 143-pounder Naida Abdijanovic (So., St. Louis, Mo., Biology) also all won one time Saturday.
The aforementioned grapplers competed in the Gold division, but there was also a Silver division. Kaylah Johnson (So., Houston, Texas, Biology) was WPU's best Silver division wrestler with a pair of victories at 155 pounds, while 109-pounder Rachel Cotter (So., Katy, Texas, Public Accounting) pinned one foe as well.
