Ogunsanya Grabs First POW of Season
Oskaloosa--Christianah Ogunsanya (So., Akure, Nigeria, Kinesiology) was in complete control throughout Sunday, and for her efforts she was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week, presented by Musco Lighting.
Ogunsanya earned her first weekly award of the year (third of her career) after dominating four opponents at the For Her Duals Sunday.
The sophomore, in her first action since the holiday break, was 4-0 with three technical falls and a lopsided decision. She outscored her opposition 42-4 and posted three shutouts.
Ogunsanya started the day with a 10-0 technical fall of Indiana Tech's Elizabeth Dollar before taking care of No. 13 Sigrun Metzger of Ottawa (Kan.) via an 11-0 technical fall. In the final match in pool play competition, the sophomore met up with No. 1 Salyna Shotwell of Life and cruised to an 11-4 decision.
In the championship dual meet against NCAA Division I Iowa, Ogunsanya throttled Ava Bayless by a 10-0 technical fall.
For the year, Ogunsanya is 5-0 with four technical falls.
The weekly laurel is the fifth for WPU this year.
